Quito, Ecuador (EFE).-
A Chinese tourist died Friday in a fall at a canyon at the foot of Ecuador’s Chimborazo volcano, according to the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition.
“We regret to inform that, during the morning today, an accident occurred in the La Chorrera canyon, 200 meters from the limit of the Chimborazo Fauna Production Reserve,” the ministry said.
“A Chinese tourist slipped after taking a tour along the protected area’s cycling route. As a result of the fall, the woman died.”

The park rangers of the protected natural area coordinated rescue actions with the National Police and other institutions to recover the woman’s body.
The Chimborazo volcano reaches 6,263 meters above sea level and is an inactive stratovolcano situated in the Cordillera Occidental range of the Andes.
Its summit is considered the furthest point in the world from the center of the Earth due to its location along the planet’s equatorial bulge. EFE
